On the last week of 2015, students were working on Christmas activities and practicing Christmas vocabulary words. Below are just some pictures of what some of the classes did.



Also, they did a wonderful job at the Christmas concert! Bravo everybody! It was a success.

Le Noël

Bonjour!

This week, students have been working on activities and vocabulary words related to Christmas.

Grade 1 and 2:
  • Students sang the song "Quand le Père Noël" and filled out lyrics sheet. Please check out the following link for the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ynt7aO8CuGw
  •  Cut and paste activity of dressing up Santa and putting in order of what comes first
  •  A letter to Santa describing whether they were good this year and write two gifts they wanted Santa to bring



SK:
  • Practise writing the four seasons
  • Exercise on coloring pictures that relate to the winter season 
  • Cut and paste Christmas vocabulary words to match with the corresponding pictures
  • Christmas cut and paste activity and putting in order of which event comes first





JK:
  • Students learn to circle words that match with the Christmas words and pictures shown
  • Students come up individually to the front of class to place Christmas words under the correct column that shows the word and picture
  • Color by number activity of SAPIN (Christmas tree)

Please find below a summary of activities we did in our Primary French class this week.

Grade 1 and 2:
  • How We Organize Ourselves: Students have learned how to say they are organized and provided examples. e.g. Je suis organisé parce que.... je range mes jouets, je range la table, ja range les chaises.. ma chambre..la maison..l'école, etc.
  • We have also learned some Christmas vocabulary words. Please see picture below.
SK:
  • Learning about the four seasons: le printemps, l'été, l'automne, et l'hiver (in that order) and the months of the year. Students learned to identify which months fall under which season.

JK:
  • Learning Christmas vocabulary word: NOËL and activity sheets relating to Christmas.

Bonjour! Please see below for acitvites we did for the week in French class.

Grade 1/2:
  • Students were introduced to new responsibility phrases such as "Je partage", "Je range mes jouets", "Je mange bien mes repas" etc. and how they would apply it at home and at school.

SK:
  • Students made farm animal finger puppets to bring home
  • They also made a mini book on farm animals to review farm vocabulary words.. un cochon, une vache, un canard, un tracteur, une ferme, un fermier..etc
  • Students completed an activity on choosing a farm animal and what they provide

JK:
  • We have worked on expressions again. Students were provided with different emotions on chart paper and were asked how they were feeling. Each student was provided with their own name to stick on under the category that expresses how they were feeling. Students loved expressing how they felt and they were able to say "Je suis content(e)..triste..faché(e).." or "J'ai peur/faim"
  • We also reviewed days of the week, numbers 1-10, colours. Students mastered at naming the mentioned concepts!






This month, the French and Gym department will be running the bake sale! We will be selling baked goods, French pins and pencils to promote the French language! The baked goods will cost between 75¢ to $1.50. The French pins will cost $2.50. They come with a variety of cute designs and French phrases. You can wear the pins on your shirts, backpacks, hats, anywhere you like! The pencils will cost $1.50 each.  If you're interested in the pins, please make sure to put a deposit to place your order as quantities are limited. That way, you may at least select one of the designs.   •  Revision on body parts and the actions involved: Avec la bouche, on mange... Avec les yeux, on regarde...  On lève/baisse les mains, On plie les bras/les jambes..  Almost all students were able to successfully name the parts of the body and the actions involved.

  • Students continue to learn about Farm animals through songs, games and worksheets: the sounds the Farm animals make, the food they provide, counting animals and writing the numbers, and coloring animals by numbers. JK:
  • Students continue to practice expressing emotions: "Je suis content(e)" and "Je suis triste". Almost all students were able to say the full sentences by themselves.
  • They are also learning new emotions such as faché(e), faim, and surpris(e).
  • Students had fun playing games and working on play-doh mats to express how they were feeling that day. Please see below for pictures.

Le Jour du Souvenir


Bonjour!

It's Remembrance Day.


This week, the PYP French classes were working on activities related to this special day. The older grades did a fill in the blank activity with Remembrance Day vocabulary words. The younger grades made a poppy out of construction paper and learned the French term for poppy which is "le coquelicot". Please see below for pictures.

Please see below for details on what the PYP French classes have been working on this week.

Grade 1/2: 

  • Learning how to say what clothes they are wearing on different occasions using the phrase "Je porte..."
  • Distinguishing between masculine and feminine and plural and singular clothing items using the following phrases "C'est un.. C'est une... Ce sont des..."
  • Working on clothing and color agreement e.g. un pantalon noir.. une robe bleue
Grade 1:

  • Learning how to say what clothes they are wearing and on what occasion using "Je porte..."
  • Working on paper doll activity to practice clothing vocabulary words. Students get to present their characters and say what the character is wearing.
SK:

  • Reviewing clothing items and saying what they are wearing using  "Je porte.."
  • Introduction to farm animals and singing songs to learn new farm animal vocabulary words e.g un mouton, un cochon, une vache.. etc.
JK: 

  • Learning expression words such as "content" and "triste". Students are able to express how they feel that day by saying "Je suis content(e)" or "Je suis triste".

  • Practise expressing what students like and do not like using J’aime/Je n’aime pas with food vocabulary words e.g. J’aime le chocolat. Je n’aime pas la carotte

  • Describe what one is wearing and what one wears on particular occasions

Grade 1/2:
  • Familarize students with food vocabulary words and get students to express what they like and what they do not like e.g. J'aime la pizza. Je n'aime pas la salade.
  • Students work on worksheets to practice completing J'aime and Je n'aime pas phrases with food vocabulary words
Grade 1:
  • "J'ai... Qui a..." number activity to review numbers 1 to 30
  • Students express what they like and do not like using food vocabulary words e.g. J'aime la pomme. Je n'aime pas la carotte.
  • Game activity to practice food vocabulary words
SK:
  • Sing songs and play games to review parts of the body
  • Review the five senses:  "Qu'est-ce qu'on mange... on écoute... on touche... etc" with the help of picture dictionary
  • "Les Cinq Sens" worksheets to assess student's knowledge of the five senses
  • Coloring activity to review colours
JK:
  • Sing songs and play games to review numbers and colours
  • Garçon and fille revision: students take turns saying if they are boy or girl "Je suis un garçon/une fille..."
  • Students trace numbers 1 to 5

Here is a summary of activities we did in French class the previous week:

Grade 1/2: 
  • Practice noun and number/colour agreement e.g un crayon bleu, deux stylos bleus..
  • Thanksgiving activity "Je dis merci pour (I am thankful for)... " e.g mon papa, ma maman, la maison...etc 
  • Turkey coloring page: students colour parts of the turkey according to numbers. This is a chance to review colours and numbers

Grade 1:
  • Practice writing numbers
  • Thanksgiving activity "Je dis merci pour (I am thankful for)..."
  • Turkey coloring page: students colour parts of the turkey according to numbers, a chance to review colours and numbers

SK:
  • Recalling the five senses: le toucher, le goût, l'odorat..etc
  • Fruit salad game to practice fruit vocabulary
  • Autumn apple coloring activity to review colours 
  • Thanksgiving turkey craft and discovering thanksgiving vocabulary words such as l'Action de Grâce and la dinde

JK:
  • Singing songs and playing games to practice days of the week, numbers, and colours
  • Thanksgiving turkey coloring page and knowing what the words "Thanksgiving" and "turkey" are in French

Last week, the PYP French classes did the following:

Grade 1/2 :

  • More practice on numbers 1 to 100
  • Intro to gender of nouns: UNE/LA (feminine) vs UN/LE (masculine)  e.g. la gomme (fem) et le crayon (masc)

Grade 1 :

  • Students get into small groups to discuss and identify classroom rules from observing pictures
  • Journal writing: draw and write one way they could be responsible in the classroom

SK:

  • Reviewing days of the week, numbers, colours and the five senses
JK:

  • Reviewing days of the week
  • Learning how to count from 1-10 and practice singing number song
  • Saying their house colours effortlessly: KAPA – orange, THETA – bleu, ZETA – vert
