Le Printemps!

Bonjour!

Here to update you what we have been doing in the PYP French classes to date.



Grade 1 & 2:
  • Students are able to name things they see during spring such as les oiseaux, les papillons, les fleurs, le lapin... and learned about spring activities.
  •  They learned to say these activities and wrote in their journals what they like to do in the spring time e.g. Pendant le printemps, j'aime faire de la bicyclette


  • On Earth Day (April 22nd), students discovered some ways they can help to protect our Earth and wrote in their journals one way that they could do to help the Earth by looking at the examples.


  • Students practiced the sounds CH, OU, & ON and are able to list words from each of the three sounds e.g CH- chien, OU- poussin, and ON- papillon
  • They also learned the different prepositions of place and sang a song to remember them: SUR- on, SOUS- under, DANS- in, etc...  They are able to say where objects are in the classroom.

SK:

  • They practiced recognizing numbers in words (e.g. 20 = vingt) by doing worksheets and playing a board game.




JK:
  • Students are able to name a few things that they see in the spring. For example: les oiseaux, les papillons, les fleurs, un lapin... 

  • On Earth Day (April 22nd), students learned some ways they can help to protect our Earth.
  • We also played games such as Bingo to review numbers 1-20 and practiced recognizing numbers in words with a dot to dot worksheet (numbers 1-10) and by playing a matching game (1-20).





Le Mois d'Avril

Please see below for details of what the PYP French classes did earlier this month (April).

Grade 1 & 2:
  • Students learned about art vocabulary words and activities on art for their art unit

  • They also learned to differentiate between the sounds (é, è & ê) and worked on a worksheet categorizing words under each "e"


SK:
  • We started a new unit on Community Helpers: students learned about the different professions, where they work and what tools they use
  • They got to work on jigsaw puzzles that connect the name and pictures of professions with their workplace

  • Students also wrote and drew what they wanted to be when they grow up "Quand je serai grand(e), je serai...."




JK:
  • We started a new unit on transportation: students learned about the different modes of transportation (Dans le ciel, Sur l'eau, Sur la terre)
 
  • They were able to list and color pictures of the different types of transportation from each category



Le Mois de Mars

  • Students wrote or drew about their March break




  • Students worked on Easter holiday activities and learned Easter vocabulary words

Please see below for details on what we did in French class this past week.

Grade 1 & 2:
  • Students worked on a worksheet where they had to count and color different items for 100 days of school
  • We reviewed action words we learned the previous week
  • Students discovered some inventions and their purpose for the Unit of Inquiry e.g. Invention: la télévision, Pourquoi? Pour regarder nos emissions favorites comme Star Wars, Power Rangers, Shopkins...
  • Students wrote in their journals what their favorite invention is

SK:
  • Students learned how to express their feelings: Je me sens content(e)...triste..fâché(e)... etc.
  •  They learned expressions with "AVOIR" such as J'ai faim (I'm hungry)... J'ai froid (I'm cold)... J'ai sommeil (I'm sleepy).. and what they do during each of these situations. For example: Quand j'ai faim, je mange.. Quand j'ai froid, je porte un manteau... Quand j'ai sommeil, je dors. They sang a song with actions related to these expressions. JK:
  • Students did a patterning activity that involved cutting and pasting "les cochons"(pigs) into the proper column according to their pattern.
  • Students did an incredible job at naming animals from each category: marcher, nager, voler
  • They also worked on coloring activity sheets where they color only animals from the specified category. For example.. color the animals that swim or color animals that fly.

Grade 1 & 2:
  • Students worked on il/elle pronoun worksheet
  • We also learned some action words/verbs and did a cut-and-paste activity that requires matching the verbs with the pictures. We got to play a fun game involving the action words/verbs




SK:
  • Started a new unit on feelings: students learned some positive and negative feelings, did a worksheet that asks them to draw a picture of how they are feeling, we also had fun playing games and sang a song involving the different types of feelings






JK:
  • Learned the three types of animals: les animaux qui marchent, qui nagent et qui volent. Students did a wonderful job providing animals from each category
  • We also played a fun game that involved the animals
